Case Study
MIG Welding Quality Improvement

Challenge
Maintaining consistent weld quality in automotive components can be challenging when process variations are not continuously monitored. Weld defects and inconsistent parameters can lead to increased part rejection and rework.
PROLABS Approach
PROLABS developed a welding parameter monitoring and data-recording system to capture critical MIG welding parameters during the welding process:
Welding Current
Welding Wire Flow
Welding Voltage
The recorded data was analyzed for both accepted and rejected components. Comparing these values helped identify the parameter ranges and process conditions associated with good-quality welds.
Results
The study provided clear insights into the relationship between welding parameters and component quality, enabling better process control and consistency. The data-driven approach significantly improved MIG welding quality and reduced part rejection in automotive component manufacturing.
From Welding Data to Better Quality
By converting real-time welding parameters into actionable process information, the system helped move quality control from post-process inspection toward data-driven process improvement.
